Boat Trips Salzkammergut
A trip on of the Wolfgangsee boats and the Schafberg railway rank among the most unforgettable experiences on offer in the Salzkammergut.
„Some mysterious form of magic is at play: Regardless of which path you choose, it always leads to a point where a brook widens to form a calm expanse of water.“
This is how Herman Melville describes water's irrepressible attraction to man. Experience this magic for yourself on a boat trip on Traunsee, Wolfgangsee or Attersee!
Boat trips on Wolfgangssee
Boat trips have long been a staple attraction of the Wolfgangsee region and are extremely popular. Its fleet of ships connects the towns and village around the lake and allows visitors to explore the picturesque region.
The oldest ship, the paddle steamer Kaiser Franz Josef I, has been carrying passengers across the lake since 1873. It was changed from being a coal-fired to diesel-operated ship in the 1950s, but otherwise the steamer remains largely unchanged.

Boat trips on Attersee
Don't miss out on the opportunity to also sail on Attersee, the Salzkammergut's sea! Allow yourself to be entranced by the surrounding landscape and the fascinating colours of the lake, which range from molten turquoise to blue-green. Attersee is the perfect place in which to recover from the stresses of everyday life.
Weekly themed and pleasure cruises such as Thursday's Evening Cruise with live music, Monday's Pirate Trip, the Panorama Trip to the Höllengebirge and its countless summer villas in the south of the lake, or the Gustav Klimt Trail in the north.
The flagship "MS Stadt Vöcklabruck" has been completely rebuilt with Gustav Klimt as its theme.
Boat trips on Traunsee
Harmony of contrasts
Traunsee, the lake with unfathomable greenish-black depths, gentle hills, steep rock faces that plunge into the water, the fairytale lakeside castle Ort, the mysterious convent Kloster Traunkirchen - and Gmunden, the cosy little town with its Mediterranean flair and narrow twisting streets and alleyways and where the presence of the lake is always felt even when not visible.

Schafberg railway on Wolfgangsee
The Schafberg railway, built in 1893, has been in operation for more than 100 years. Even today every attempt is made to use the old steam locomotives to convey passengers wherever possible. But the more recent engines too are worth taking a look at.
The play of light on Wolfgangsee in the autumn is an experience for all the senses. From the top of the Schafberg, the view of the Salzkammergut lakes is exhilarating. It is worth walking around the summit of the mountain to take in all the views and impressions. And after this impressive high-altitude walk, you can visit the Hotel Schafbergspitze, which is located right on the summit.
