The lake can be reached in just 15 minutes from Bad Ischl. Once there visitors can participate in water sports, hike in the mountains or climb the Zwölferhorn the easy way by riding to the summit in the cable railway. Our summer bathing area (exclusively open to hotel guests) can also be found on the lakeshore at Abersee. Beach chairs and loungers are provided, with food available at the local restaurant.
St. Wolfgang
On the northern shore of Wolfgangsee, in the shadow of the Schafberg, lies Sankt Wolfgang, the destination of pilgrims for over 1000 years, and today a modern all-year climatic health and holiday resort.
The journey through the village's lively history leads past old town houses and colourful shops directly to the pilgrimage church with its famous winged altarpiece by Michael Pacher. It then continues along Europe's oldest pilgrims' path to the places of worship of Saint Wolfgang on the Falkenstein. The Church of St. Wolfgang has been renowned for its magnificent decoration for centuries. Michael Pacher's powerful winged altarpiece, completed in 1481, Thomas Schwanthaler's splendid baroque altar from 1676 with its relics of Saint Wolfgang, as well as the 3 altars and pulpit created by the great baroque sculptor Meinrad Guggenbichler in 1706, together make this pilgrimage church an extraordinary artistic jewel.
Those who wish to venture up high into the mountains can take the rack railway up to the summit of the Schafberg and enjoy the view from Austria's most beautiful viewing point. The inn at which the operetta "Im Weißen Rössl" is set, offers a wealth of diversions, from light entertainment to the popular 'summer nights'.
St. Gilgen
St. Gilgen was the birthplace of the mother of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the house still stands today. None of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's famous works were written in St. Gilgen, and he himself never visited the village. And yet the history of this holiday resort is inextricably bound with that of Mozart, as St. Gilgen was where three of the people who played a big role in his life lived: This is where his grandfather worked, where his mother was born, and where his sister Nannerl moved to after her marriage.
From the village you can follow the wildly romantic pilgrimage route over the Falkenstein to St. Wolfgang.
