Nuad Phaen Boran
The massage
The origins of the traditional Thai Massage, called Nuad in Thailand, lie in India, where the founder of this massage, Jivaka Kumar Bhacca, lived more than 2,500 years ago. He is still revered in Thailand as the father of medicine. The massage starts on your feet and legs lying on your back on a floor mat, further positions are lying on your side, face down and sitting. Pressure is applied using the fingers, elbows, arms and feet, and additionally all the joints are mobilised through movement and intense (!) stretching. Many of these positions appear similar to yoga exercises, which is why Nuad is also called passive yoga. The traditional Thai massage is a full body treatment for which you need a corresponding amount of time and peace and quiet. A treatment takes about 2 hours.
