Culture in Salzkammergut
Lovely Salzkammergut with its picturesque mountains and quaint lakes has inspired a number of famous artists over the centuries, including the painter Rudolf Alt, composer Gustav Mahler and writer Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach. When Emperor Franz Joseph chose Bad Ischl as his summer residence, some of the major composers of his time followed him, e.g. Franz Lehár, the master of operetta, who wrote his timeless works in Bad Ischl.
